Chief Legal Officer, Sr. VP Business Development, Joule Assets
Stephen is Chief Legal Officer and Sr. VP Business Development for Joule Assets, where he leads Joule's legal operations and resources. His foundational work at Joule includes developing the Company’s Community Choice Aggregation and Community Distributed Generation offerings, developing its energy efficiency and renewable energy financing agreements, as well as managing the Company’s corporate operations. He also has led to Company’s efforts to build its Information Technology and Data Security infrastructure. His filings include a successful petition to the NY Public Service Commission implementing the first CCA program in New York State.
Prior to joining Joule, Steve practiced law for two decades, both in private practice and in-house, where his clients included clean tech, technology, and start-up companies. He previously served as Director of Corporate Development for a photovoltaic manufacturer. He co-founded and serves on the Board of Directors of CSRHub, a web-based ratings service that evaluates the corporate social responsibility performance of nearly 5,000 companies. He also serves on the Board of Local Farms Fund, a community impact farmland investment fund that invests in local and sustainable farms. He was a long-term member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, one of the first environmental non-profits in the U.S. Steve also advises numerous businesses and organizations that are developing local and regional financing models, and is committed to creating a robust sustainable economic system with more local ownership and control.
Steve received a J.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Law, where he was Paul J. Liacos Distinguished Scholar; and a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.
